DailyUpdates Jan 5th: We feature new information on diabetic kidney disease and hypertension; a new target for the treatment of prstatic disease and a press release from Neurotech who announced today the initiation of a Phase II clinical trial of their Biotech approach to age related macular degener
Only two releases featured today and the pick of these comes from our Technology channel courtesy of Neurotech who announced today the initiation of a Phase II clinical trial of NT-501. This intraocular implant contains human retinal epithelial cells genetically modified to secrete Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor (CNTF) thus maintaining sight during age related macular degeneration. Our headline journal article focuses on a study showing that prostatic stromal fibroblasts express and secrete higher levels of the CXCL12 chemokine with age and stimulate CXCR4-mediated signaling pathways that induce cellular proliferation. This study suggests that blocking CXCL12 may limit the growth of benign and cancerous prostate cells. We also feature today a new report Hypertension and Diabetic Kidney Disease Prevalence, current treatment and future options
